Pakistan vs india war update

As of May 14, 2025, India and Pakistan have entered a fragile ceasefire following a significant military escalation—the most intense since the Kargil conflict in 1999. The hostilities were triggered by a terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, which killed 26 Hindu pilgrims. India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based militants, prompting a series of retaliatory strikes.

⚔️ Timeline of the Conflict

  • May 7: India launched "Operation Sindoor," executing 14 precision strikes on alleged terrorist camps across nine locations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Punjab. The operation utilized Rafale jets equipped with SCALP missiles and Hammer bombs, as well as BrahMos cruise missiles and SkyStriker drones. India asserted that the strikes targeted infrastructure of groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba, avoiding Pakistani military facilities.

  • May 8–9: Pakistan responded with "Operation Bunyan-un-Marsus," involving missile attacks on Indian airbases, drone strikes on civilian areas, and cyberattacks on Indian military and government networks. Notably, Pakistan claimed to have targeted Indian airbases at Nur Khan, Rafiqi, and Murid, with some missiles reportedly intercepted by Indian defenses.

  • May 10: A U.S.-brokered ceasefire was announced, halting active hostilities. However, both nations accused each other of violating the truce shortly after its implementation.

🕊️ Ceasefire and Diplomatic Efforts

The ceasefire, facilitated by U.S. mediation, was officially declared on May 10. Despite the agreement, tensions remain high, with both sides expressing skepticism about the other's commitment to peace. India has dismissed claims of third-party mediation, emphasizing that issues related to Jammu and Kashmir are bilateral matters.

Pakistan, while expressing a desire to uphold the ceasefire, has warned of decisive responses to any future aggression.

🔥 Casualties and Damage

  • India: Reported the loss of five military personnel and 16 civilians. Additionally, Pakistan claimed to have shot down multiple Indian aircraft, including Rafale jets, though India has not confirmed these losses.

  • Pakistan: Reported 11 military and 40 civilian deaths due to Indian strikes. Significant infrastructure damage was reported, including at the Nur Khan airbase in Rawalpindi.

🧭 Current Outlook

While active combat has ceased, the situation remains volatile. Both nations have expelled diplomats and suspended key agreements, such as the Indus Waters Treaty and the Simla Agreement, narrowing diplomatic channels.

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is scheduled to brief the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs on May 19, providing insights into the government's approach to the ongoing tensions
